The rising of Matariki, or the star cluster known as Pleiades, usually occurs near the end of June and the beginning of July, it heralds in the Māori New Year, Te Tau Hou Māori. Te Tau Hou Māori is marked in different ways around Aotearoa/New Zealand and here in Pēwhairangi/Bay of Islands the Matariki Pēwhairangi Festival, is held June 30th to 22nd July and is packed with feasts and events to feed your mind, body, and soul!

Bay of Islands Beast, Sat 26th August, Puketone Rd, Haruru. Take on a 7km cross-country course of steep hills, uneven terrain, mud, and a whole lot of fun.
