What we do…..
When deciding on a name for our business we wanted it to reflect what’s important to us as well as Northland’s uniqueness as a region. The pāteke or New Zealand brown teal is a very rare and special creature. Once widespread across the country, predation from introduced pests means it is now Aotearoa/New Zealand’s most endangered endemic waterfowl. The last remaining natural pāteke habitat on the mainland of New Zealand is the coastal valleys of Eastern Northland and using its name is our modest attempt to help raise awareness of the fight to save this taonga species from extinction.
We donate 1.0%, 1.0%, and 2.0% of our annual profit to the Pāteke Recovery Programme, Puketi Forest Trust, and KidsCan / Unicef respectively.
